CHAPTER ELEVEN

Over the next month as spring brought the city to life, Mason continued to awaken under Gray’s and Jack’s touches and to find parts of himself he’d tried to shut down. He didn’t like needing anyone the way he’d come to need them. He’d managed on his own just fine since he’d decided to make his own choices rather than letting his family direct his life. Of course that meant he was often lonely, but if he didn’t expect anything from anyone else, he wouldn’t be disappointed. Unconditional love wasn’t something he believed in anymore, and yet Gray and Jack gave without his ever asking. They gave friendship and comfort in the form of food and cuddles on the couch and someone to listen when he had a bad day, and they gave blinding, mind-blowing pleasure without ever making demands on him.

Sex with them was always incredible, but it wasn’t always kinky. Gray admitted that being a dominating bastard came naturally to him, but only when they all agreed did he expect obedience from them in the bedroom. Sometimes they had joke-filled, companionable sex or soothing, comforting sex after a difficult day, but the sex where Gray gave Mason both pain and pleasure was so intense it threatened to tear him asunder. They opened him up and saw right down to his core. That wasn’t something he could handle every day.

And they didn’t just fuck, they hung out together and talked. Mason even convinced Jack and Gray to spend a Saturday having a Stargate marathon, and by the end they were as caught up in the exploits of SG-1 as he was.

The robberies in the neighborhood around Nathan’s stopped for several weeks, but the police believed the same group was responsible for incidents in another part of town even though the pattern wasn’t exactly the same. The lack of well-organized robberies didn’t slow down work for Jack and Gray though. They still worked the occasional double shift, and Mason often ended up seeing them only in the middle of the night.

Even still, he spent several nights each week at their house and he finally quit thinking he should leave every night. He kept a toothbrush there and a few changes of clothes. They talked about the three of them like they were a unit, but he kept waiting for things to end, for Jack and Gray to miss it being just the two of them. Because this couldn’t possibly last. His lovers were a couple, and he was the guy they were fucking to spice things up.

That’s how it had to be, didn’t it? The three of them actually having a relationship was far too complicated. A few times Mason almost questioned his lovers about what they wanted from him, where they saw things going, but he always chickened out. He was certain if he started a conversation like that things would get weird, and everything would fall apart. He was terrified of what that would do to him. He’d tried to fight his dependence on them, but he couldn’t stop himself from wanting them.
